Living on Long Island, I go to New York City pretty regularly. It is a short 30 minute train ride.
The Big Apple is one of the great cities of the world. Its a major center for the Arts, Commerce, etc. There are numerous places to stay from motels to world class hotels, countless restaurants and multiple opportunities to fill your days, no matter where your interests lies.
So Come visit New York City and take a bite out of the Big Apple.
