Long Island is just that, an island. It is bordered to the west by the NYC. To the north, Long Island Sound. To the south and east, the Atlantic Ocean. Here on the island, one can find a great wealth of places to see and discover. From sandy beaches to world class shopping malls, and from wonderful gardens to a great array of parks and preserves. For outdoor enthusiasts, there is fishing, hiking, bird watching, cycling, etc. For lovers of culture and the arts, thre are museums, concert halls, and many historic sites. And for sports fans, there is the Nassau Collessium, home of the New York Islanders Hockey Team.
So, whether it be Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, Long Island has it all. There is something for everybody.

Nice tips on your home region. I hope the hurricane didn't cause too much damage.
Extensive damage. My house lucked out though as we're slightly higher than a lot of other houses and we have an unfinished casement. We had 20 inches while many other homes were flooded and ruined.
Hi Stephen, Long Island looks like a place I would like to visit, with the historical mansions and the wonderful beaches and birds! Great page!
Great page, very informative
We just got back from another trip to Manhattan-but have always longed to see LOng Island and its mansions and beaches to tour. You did a nice job of showing the sites and describing them to readers.
Yes that's it! I'm impressed, not so many Americans know about that :-)) Gallipoli I mean. Yeah it was Mel's early start :-)
Thanks for visiting my website. Your tips are great! Hope to see you in Seattle. Since there are many VT members around the area, did you want to have a VT meeting and make it official?
This might be a good spot to stay for an extended time - how is it there in September? Greetings from Augusta, GA
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Grew up in Huntington. Spent many summer days at Jones Beach and Robert Moses!
Great tips! I especially would enjoy the migratory birds on Jones Beach, Atlantis Marine World, Sands Point Reserve, and the Bethpage Restoration Village. All of your "off the Beaten Path" tips also sounded great! And the food yum!
Don't get back often enough and your pages sooth this nostalgia. Really hope to see more on Fire Island - it was my favorite when I lived in NYC.
