Thailand is located in SE Asia and is often called the Land of Smiles because of the friendly, easy going nature of its people. It is the only country in the region that was not colonized by any of the imperial powers. Though Britain tried unsucessfully. Its main cities are Bangkok, the capital (see seperate pages) and Chiang Mai in the north.

Like much of SE Asia, Thailand is a Buddhist country and has many beautilful temples and Buddha statues. The country is also famous for its cuisine. Having just returned from there, I can attest to this.

Thailand also has many important historical and UNESCO sites. Its earliest cultures date to the 12th Century and ruins from this period and later can be found throughout the country.

Thailand also has some world class beaches and resort hotels. Many of these are found on the island of Phuket in the south. (See seperate pages). And there are also a world of activities available for the active traveler. From hiking and elephant trekking, to diving and sailing.
Yes, Thailand truly has it all.
