Where Ragtime Began...

Sedalia's claim for the beginnings of ragtime began may be arguable in that the American public first heard its catchy rhythms at Chicago's 1893 World's Fair. However, due to the fact that Scott Joplin lived in Sedalia and did his most prolific songwriting in Sedalia, this town can make a strong backing for its claim.

I had been on an all-too-quick jaunt through this region of Missouri on a spring Saturday in 2003, and unfortunately arrived in Sedalia much too late to see and do much. I need to get back there some day, so I can complete this page.
