You know how it is when you're driving along the highway, see a road sign that captures your fancy, and you say "let's see what that is?" Well that's how we happened to find Gooseberry Falls. We were driving on Minnesota Hwy 61 north of Duluth, headed toward Thunder Bay, Ontario, when we made this detour. We were glad we did. This is a really pretty set of water falls, and we had a nice walk to stretch and relax.

We took a short hike down river, saw the falls from a different perspective, and from a distance saw where the Gooseberry River empties into Lake Superior.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Pretty waterfall, well-maintained walking paths and grounds.
  • Cons:A lot of other people found this park, as well.
  • In a nutshell:A very pleasant diversion!
