Name of Shop: Cabela's

Four acres of floor space devoted to hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor gear. Lots of folks go there just to see the huge number of stuffed animals on display and the aquariums. Restaurant on the premises as well.

This store was the most frequently visited attraction in the entire state of Kansas in the year 2002, in spite of not opening until the month of August. I'm not surprised - the day I visited there were several out of state tour busses in the parking lot.

Name of Shop: Krizman's Sausage

If you have eaten sausage at any of Kansas City's finest barbecue restaurants, or at the well-known Sophie's Deli on Polish Hill in KCK, you have probably eaten Krizman's Polish sausage. The Krizman's have been in the sausage business on Strawberry Hill since 1939, and besides supplying a number of restaurants, have a steady stream of loyal walk-in customers. The company features Croatian sausages, but provides other ethnic sausages, as well: knockwurst, blood sausage, Italian, etc.

Open to the public Tuesday thru Saturday.

What To Buy: I can only speak for the Polish sausage - it's terrific. Lean and flavorful.

What To Pay: Krizman's prices are only pennies on the pound higher than what you would pay for mass-produced, medium to poor grade sausages found in supermarkets.
