In the "Fourteener" Region

Located on the Arkansas River between the Sawatch and Mosquito Ranges of the Rocky Mountains is Salida, Colorado. This town provides plenty of activities and provisions for vacationers, but without the high profile and prices of a Vail or Estes Park to the north.

Chaffee County, in which Salida is located, has more mountain peaks of 14,000 ft (4267.2m) than any other county in Colorado - thus the name "Fourteener" Region.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Mountain scenery and recreation activities, temperate summer climate.
Cons:Not an easy place to get to without a long drive.
In a nutshell:A pleasant and relaxing week with family here.

Interesting page. Passed through here some years ago. Didnt have the guts to do Monarch Pass. :) Loved the photos. Ouray is definitely one to check out!
