"Elizabeth, Colorado" Elizabeth by basstbn

Elizabeth Travel Guide: 3 reviews and 5 photos

We almost missed this little jewel.

Elizabeth, Colorado, was not on our itinerary. It was just a spot on the map between us and our destination for the evening. My wife was taking her turn at the wheel as we passed through this town. I asked her to turn around and let's take a look. What we found was a charming little village surrounded by new developement but with some interesting buildings on the high plains of eastern Colorado.

I later learned that Elizabeth was founded as a booming sawmill town while the railroad was being built in the area in 1880, and that the current population is 818. It looked bigger to me, but maybe some of those homes are outside of the city.
