Lost, sort of | "Are you sure this is Highway 67?" she asked. |
Let me set the scene.
We have spent as much time in Colorado Springs as we have and must return to Sharon Springs, Kansas, to visit Nancy's parents on our way home.
Being the curious traveler, I don't like to retrace my path if I can help it, and was interested in seeing some of the mountain areas severely damaged by forest fires the previous year. I informed Nancy that we were going to drive north on Highway 67 through Decker which then swings east toward the interstate.
We saw some beautiful foothill country with green meadows, and many scarred pine trees, as you will see in the travelogue.
After passing through Decker, the highway suddenly became a gravel road, become narrower, more winding, and climbing higher. At this point we wondered if we were lost, or it had become county road 67 or what. We saw few cars. After some anxious moments, we made the descent from the mountain pass and found ourselves right where we expected to be all along. I was happy to have been driving a 4-wheel drive SUV.
No pictures of Decker, but see travelogues of countryside. |
