San Xavier del Bac Mission

San Xavier, Arizona, is located fifteen minutes south of Tucson, just off of Interstate Highway 19. It would be just another dusty little Sonoran Desert town if it weren't for the existence of the beautifully preserved San Xavier del Bac Mission, located in the adjacent San Xavier Indian Reservation.

Completed in 1797, the Baroque-style church is still served by the Franciscans for the natives for which it was built.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautiful architecture stands out starkly against the desert.
  • Cons:Hot and dusty in the summer.
  • In a nutshell:Worth seeing time and again! I have.
