  • It was chilly, rainy, grey and yet still gorgeous and hypnotizing.

  • Climb up on the campanile (by elevator). I am not sure about the hours, I believe they close early though, so do this as soon as you can.

Once you are there, there is really nothing much to do but to look at gorgeous views of Venice and Piazza Marco

Basilica di San Marco (exterior only): St Mark's Basilica

  • Honestly I don't want to butcher St Mark's Basilica description, Wiki can do a much better job. It contains tons of art, architecture, history. From what I learned, Venetians stole St Mark's body from Alexandria and built the Basilica over his burial place.

There are a few small separate sections-museums. There is a treasure museum with separate cost and upper section with separate cost too. Treasure museum is a bit freaky, lots of relics to look at.

    No photography allowed inside.

  • Once you go upstairs in St Mark's Basilica to a separate gallery, don't miss an opportunity to go outside. The views of the Piazza and the water are spectacular.

  • Venetian pigeons are CRAZY!!!!

Well first of all they do not bother you, unless you purchase a little bag of corn nut for 1 euro. As soon as the birds see you walking up to the guy who sells them they will be ALL over you. Once the bag is empty they will leave you alone.

Oh watch out for Japanese tourist, they are scared to feed the birds (running the risk to get pooped on probably) but they will aggressively take picture of you being in the middle of it.

    Gondolas: Romantic

  • Even though it's touristy and cliche, it's still very romantic and something to do. When you are there you may cheap out and not do it, but will regret it later. How often do we all get to go to Venice?

And besides it's very interesting they gondoliers take you through varies quite canals, brief you on Venice's history, flood problems and point out some of the famouse villas.

We floated by houses where Marco Polo, Mozart, Vivaldi, Casanova lived and so on.

It is expensive though, i think we payed around 110 euros, you can try to bargain which is useless.
