Travel broadens the mind, and the waist!

by lyntraveller - last update: Apr 13, 2008

I always dreamed of travel and adventure but was busy building a home and raising the children. So when my husband died 3 years ago I decided now is the time, before I get too old or tired. I've combined travelling alone with small group tours. And was lucky enough to spend 11 weeks travelling with my daughter in Africa last year. We both did the Guiness World Record highest bungy jump in South Africa! I hiked the Inca Trail, spent 5 days 'walking' on The Great Wall of China, stood in awe at the foot of the Great Pyramid, did a balloon ride over the Nile at Luxor, took a helicopter flight over Las Vegas at night, got a tattoo at Miami Ink, paraglided in Turkey, went blackwater caving in New Zealand and rafted the Colorado river the entire length of the Grand Canyon. I do believe whatever else I do the river rafting adventure will always be the best. As well as everywhere I want to go dog sledding in Alaska. After spending hours on the Internet I found the 8 day trip I want but no other tours until start of summer season. Bugger! Show me a plane and I'm in. And still up for more adventure.
Well, after 5 months here I heard this noise. Lyn, Lyn! It was the world calling. So I sat here on the Net looking at all those wonderful destinations, and just before my husband died my kids bought me "Unforgettable places to see before you die" so I picked it up for ideas. I've been working my way through the places in the book. The page opened at Havana, so decision made I researched where else I can go to make it a worthwhile trip. So I leave April 26 and after 2 weeks in Cuba I fly to Panama and have 60 days travelling from there through all those glorious Central American countries to Mexico City. Thanks to all the great travellers on VT I have amazing information about all my destinations. I'm excited as a kid in a lolly shop! I thank all you great people for your amazing travel pages, and feel guilty that I haven't given more information on my own. But, too busy planning and travelling! Maybe one day. Ciao.

Hi Lyn, you've done some interesting things! I like the sound of paragliding in Turkey. Africa must have been interesting. I hope to do a safari some day :) Louisa ... bungee-ing - they'd have to push me !

Hi Lyn. Hope you are having a great time on your trips. I had no idea you had done all those wild things like bungie jumping! A ride on the Athens Metro pales in comparison!
