Kifisia - VP for VIPs

Kifisia is a commercial and residential suburb about 20 km north of Athens. In Greek it is the ultimate VP (Voreio Proastio = northern suburb), and home to many Athenian VIPs.

Why visit Kifisia? Because it is greener, cooler, and more relaxing than downtown Athens. Even if you can't afford to spend a lot, a leisurely stroll through the small park and the tree-lined streets is free.

Kifisia - How to Get Here

To arrive here from downtown, take the Athens Metro (green line) all the way to Kifisia, the last stop northbound (1/2 hour trip). From the metro station cross the street and enter the small park (Alsos Kifisias) up to the main avenue (3 minute walk). On this side of the park, you will find the bus stop for the buses that arrive from downtown via Kifisias Avenue.

(Tip: there is an express bus that runs between Kifisia & Syntagma during weekdays, and then every half hour from 8pm to 8am every night -- Yes, a night bus, at the same ticket price as the daytime schedule!).

Cross Kifisias Avenue (Leoforos Kifisias) and you will find yourself right in the middle of boutiques, cafes, cinemas (open-air in the summertime), restaurants, and trendy bars & clubs.

Kifisia - What to Do and See

If you want to go shopping, then you are in heaven. All the European high-fashion labels are here, as well as more modestly priced boutiques.

You will find a wide variety of eateries - from fast food chains, sandwich shops, and souvlaki to classy Italian, Japanese, Lebanese, Turkish, and "modern Greek" restaurants.

There are numerous cultural attractions - summer homes of former prime ministers, kings, and writers; a natural history museum, some interesting small churches, a small archeological museum, and even a Roman tomb.
