"One Day in Hawaii." Honolulu by Openseas

Left Sydney on 23rd August at 10.00am for Hawaii. It was exciting because we were going business class on a jumbo. It was the first time I had ever been upstairs on a plane. The trip took about eight hours. Watched a few movies and generally had a fantastic time been spoilt in business class. It sure does make flying more pleasurable.

Arrived in Hawaii late afternoon and took a taxi to the Pink Hotel on Waikiki Beach. We were delighted to be greeted with orchid lei, and to find our room with a gifted basket of pineapple, mango, apples, oranges and a warm banana nut loaf. Everything in the hotel is pink. Pink towels, pink sheets, pink wallpaper, and pink bathrobes, not to mention the pink painted walls that covered the hotel. I actually thought about getting some pink underwear, pink bra, pink undies, and oomph’s maybe a pink nightie to decorate myself with not to mention some pink oleander flowers braided into my hair.

We had a brief look around the hotel and then ventured down the street to find a bar. (Unfortunately, it wasn’t pink) Peter was hanging out for a beer. Found an Irish Bar (green coasters, green chairs and green posters, beginning to think I’m travelling under a colour decore) opened so had a few drinks there before heading home to the pink bed.

Day Two

In the morning, we went downstairs and had breakfast. It was stunning looking over the ocean; the water doesn’t seem real, more like a man-made beach. There were many surfers in the water but no waves. We quickly decided to spend the rest of our time lying on the beach. We went for a swim and it was great, as it reminded us of summer again. We lazed around for a few hours and seriously got sunburnt especially Peter, he was so red. We had lunch in this horrible Japanese restaurant and then ventured back to our room to pack for Chicago. Our plane departed Honolulu at 4pm in the afternoon. It was a real shame not to have more time to explore Hawaii, especially some of the beaches.
