"Ebeye - a very special place" Ebeye by albertolai

Thanks to fellow VT traveller Travelmad478 I have been able to go to this place. To arrive to Ebeye you have to go through Kuajalein Airport which is on the US Army base in the Marshall Island. It's nearly impossible to get to Ebeye if you don't have a contact in the base, or if you don't have much money, since the flight from Honolulu is pretty expensive. All in all from Italy I had 26 hours on planes, but it took 48 hours with waiting time. One of the longest journeys I have ever done by plane. At the end you have a 30 minutes ride by ferry to the small Ebeye island, which being just one mile long and less than 300mt wide, with its 13.000 inhabitants its the crowdest place on earth.

This is definitely no tourist destination, not having anything close to an hotel, lack of water, sometimes lack of electricity, lack of telephone lines, lack of internet connection, lack of post cards, lack of whatever amenities are associated with tourism.

The people of Ebeye, hardly having any contact with the outside world, are very happy people. The children with their beautiful smiles are something special. The inhabitants of this island are a living proof that you can be poor and happy at the same time!

• In a nutshell:It's called the dump of the pacific, but it's an extraordinary experience!
