This was to be our last stop on a "Just the two of us" tour of China. It is a part of the world that will always have special memories for us.

We are especially thankful to the wonderful people at the LAP MING TRAVEL AGENCY located in Hong Kong who took my handwritten itinerary by fax, prepared after weeks of studying brochures, and won a "bidding contest" which resulted in a 'just the two of us' visit to China and many of its wonders. We will certainly return again.

Working in conjunction with the CHINA INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL SERVICE we experienced a guided tour through many cities and towns with a new guide in each of these. It is known as a "meet and greet" service. No matter the mode of travel, you are met and greeted by your tour guide. He or she has been provided with continuing updates by Central Hdqtrs., and recognizes her charges the moment you arrive, almost spooky.

But little wonder. The CITS of today was once the arm of the Government of the People's Republic responsible for keeping tabs on foreigners, much in the form of a KGB operation. They still know how, believe me.

Our final destination hotel was the famous WHITE SWAN HOTEL renowned not only for the beauty which is striking, but for the clientele that it has served over the years. Many of the most well known National Leaders and others of celebrity have walked through the doors of this hotel.

Putting us up at the White Swan was a last minute change in our itinerary, we had not expected it and did not even realize that we were going there. Our itinerary suggested that we were going to be at a different hotel, and this came as a surprise to us. That is exactly what the travel agent wanted it to be, it was as a GIFT from the folks at Lap Ming International Travel Service that all of this had been arranged without our knowledge. We found out about it when we got there.

And it was not just an ordinary Standard room, either, it was definitely in the high end of the scale. Thus we overlooked the Pearl River.
