<b><font color="brown"size=+1>After a brief visit to London, we flew into Sevilla on June 20. One of the central tourist sites is shown above. This area alone requires at least a full day to see, better to set aside two days.<p>

According to legend, Sevilla was founded by Hercules and its origins are linked with the Tartessian civilisation. It was called Hispalis under the Romans and Isbiliya with the Moors. Its high point in its history was following the discovery of America.


Sevilla is one of the most exciting cities in Spain, with wonderful parks and gardens, Muslim monuments, flamenco, bullfights and a large and lively student population. Expo 92 brought the city into the international spotlight. If you really want to experience Sevilla at its best, try to get there for Semanta Santa (the week before Easter) or the Feria de Abril.<p>

Sevilla's immense cathedral is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having an area greater than any other in the world. This immense structure is primarily Gothic, though the work done after its central dome collapsed in 1511 was mostly in Renaissance style. The climb to the adjoining tower, known as the Giralda, is well worth the effort for the great views of the city.<p> Check out the Alcázar, a magnificent palace dating from the Moorish times of Spain; and the Archivo de Indias, which houses over 40 million documents dating from 1492 through to the decolonisation of the Americas.<p>

<font color="green"size=+1>As you wander through these ancient buildings, there are thousands of pictures that one can take. These white doves had created nests which they've probably been doing ever since foliage adorned these arches built hundreds of years ago.</b></font>
