This was the last city for our Santiago to Buenos Aires leg of a trip that continued on all the way up the Eastern Coast of BRAZIL to MANAUS, covering many of the major cities and sights of <font color="blue"size=+0>~ CHILE ~ ARGENTINA ~ URUGUAY ~ and the <font color="RED"size=+0>FALKLAND ISLANDS along the way.

Just the day before, we'd had the pleasure of doing a quick tour of Montevideo, Uruguay and knew that we would be seeing that city for a second time the following day with the same young man who had acted as our guide.

He left us with the promise to plan the whole day for us upon our return, just leave it all up to him, we won't be disappointed. He had taken great pains explaining how we should tour Buenos Aires and wished out loud how much he would like to come with us. He had a relative in Buenos Aires that would have been happy to have given us a guided tour but unfortunately for us, that party was out of town.

Many of the people who we had gotten to know on the ship during the past two weeks had already signed up for the ship's tour and were not really up to going out and becoming STREETWALKERS. This was to be a day for serendipity and comfortable shoes.

You are all welcome to tag along with us on our walking tour of one of the world's most beautiful cities. We plan to start early and return late. This was the last day for many of the passengers and replenishing the departees with new passengers for the next leg of the voyage.

To our good fortune, our fellow "first seating" table partners were also continuing on to MANAUS and we really did not want to pair up with anyone as our plan was to go as far as our legs would take us. No one else was ready for that and, as stated, many of them were committed to a PRINCESS CRUISE all day bus tour.

Most of those of you who have become experienced cruise tour addicts know how this works. For the benefit of those who do not, let me dwell on the subject in hopes of giving you a little insight. Hopefully, you just might find it useful.

The very nature of a cruise which begins in a far off location is always expensive, even if you get a great Bargain Special it is going to be a pretty penny by the time you calculate your airfares, gratuities and the endless stream of expenses that go hand in hand with luxury travel. It will come as no surprise to some of you that this kind of travel can cost as much as $500.00 a day, and that is for a regular cabin, not the DELUXE SUITE WITH BALCONY or a PENTHOUSE on the top deck.

Rest assured, all of the major cruise lines will have deluged you with an endless stream of information which caters to the bottomless pit, AKA your BANK ACCOUNT which the Cruise lines all attempt to appropriate into their coffers. By the time you are ready to leave for your voyage, they bend every effort to have you sign up for a variety of well planned day tours which have all been very well thought out by their consultants. The negative side of this is the the consultants are actually accountants. The plus side is that you don't have to do any thinking, just follow the pack and go with the flow.

Thus, the theme, of this page, the viable alternative for the brave and hardy is STREETWALKING. You have already been furnished with tons of information by your travel agent, the ship has furnished you with the model tour your luggage is bulging with different literature, perhaps a couple volumes of LONELY PLANET so there is really no good excuse for wondering what to see and having a few clues as how best to get there, after all, you are all seasoned travelers or you will be after reading and following the great advice seen on the many pages of our fellow VT MEMBERS, many of whom could run circles around the average travel agent.

Let's go for a walk!
