The Cook Islands consist of 15 islands scattered over some 2 million square kilometres of the Pacific Ocean. They lie in the centre of the Polynesian Triangle, flanked to the west by the Kingdom of Tonga and the Samoas and to the east by Tahiti and the islands of French Polynesia. The islands so far have not been spoilt by mass tourism like some of their South Pacific neighbours and so visiting them still feels like 'getting away from it all'. Rarotonga is the biggest island and is where the international airport is situated. Each of the islands is surrounded by lagoons and reefs, great for snorkelling.
I spent 2 weeks in the Cook islands on my RTW trip. I visited Rarotonga, Aitutaki and Atiu. Each island has its own story and can be quite different from the next. All islands are amazingly beautiful with quiet secluded white beaches surrounded by beautiful crystal clear waters, lagoons and coral reefs. The locals are very friendly and have a very interesting culture.I've already promised myself to visit here again but next time i want longer(dont we always!?) and i want to visit the Northern group of islands especially Manihiki! if anyone makes it up there, please let me know!....The Cook islands are a great place just to chill out but theres also plenty to go and explore!!...enjoy as you enter..paradise!
