Quality of life city - Graz Graz is the second largest city after Vienna in Austria with 220,000 peole but its unstressed atomosphere and high quality of life make people proud of this town. It is overshadowed by Vienna and Salzburg in popularity but it is a town not spoiled by "rushy" tourists. The California Governor Arnold Scwarzenegger, who was fighting wild-fire at the time I was enjoying Graz, was born in this city, brought up and worked in the neighbor city Thal. He did not "terminate" his life here but move to Hollywood for acting as a Terminator. Graz is also a home town for the famous conductor, Karl Bohm, who directed both Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic orchestras. Franz Schber's famous symphony "The Unfinished" was discovered here in his friend's house 40 years after his death. |
