If your plans include visiting more interesting places around São João or if you are on a low budget, then it is advisable to stay near the bus station, especially if you don't care much about luxury. There is a small hotel on the side road of the station, Hotel Colibri, small and uninteresting, but friendly and convenient. Rooms with private bathroom and TV cost 25R$. You can commute to Tiradentes or elsewhere very easily. There is a little noise during the day but you will never be there, I suppose... During the night it is safe and quiet.
