Paseando por Roma

by marielexoteria - last update: Dec 23, 2008

My trip to Rome was sort of a last minute trip and an early birthday present. It is *insane* the amount of information on VT as well as the Internet for a place like this one! I had a general agenda planned for the almost 3-day trip but it got cut short due to delays because of thick fog at CDG. Still, I made the most of the time I had, and apparently my wish was heard because we were lucky enough to have blue skies, sun and warm weather (in comparison to Sweden).

I would like to take the opportunity to thank:

- abarbieri
- leics
- effeti
- monorailgold
(more names will be shown as I remember)

for their input, patience and help in putting together this trip. If you have helped me out and I forgot to write your name here, you're welcome to send me an e-mail and tell me.

My "theme" for this trip was, in a way, Christian & Historic Rome. The first day was spent at St. Peter's Basilica and walking around the Vatican City all the way to Piazza del Risorgimento (but I don't think that's part of the Vatican). The second day, we walked around Historic Rome and came back to St. Peter's for a visit to the dome (we didn't have time the day before) and to see it from inside (and "above").

As always, the pictures on this page are taken by me unless otherwise specified. Some of them are in black and white because I thought it gave more character to the motif.

Two pointers for those planning a trip to Rome

Because there's a LOT of info about Rome, I think it's important to be critical about certain aspects of traveling. The one thing I have read about the most is that drivers won't stop for nobody. That's partly true. Some daredevils didn't stop for us even when they had a red light and we had a green light, some didn't stop when we were going across the street on a zebra crossing but we experienced that most of the car/bus/tram drivers did stop.

Restaurants are a bit of a hit and a miss. It would probably take weeks to read all the tips here, in Trip Advisor and several other websites. I'm usually keen of having some places to choose from but on this trip, I only looked for meat places (a tradition hubby and I have) and left the rest to chance, which could either work on your favor or against you.
