A day trip from Tarnów

What to see

Ciezkowice church
Cięzkowice is a little town some 40km south of Tarnów in a very picturesque area surrounded by hills and forests. It can be easily reached by car, bus or train (the railway station being howewer outside the town, some, a 15-minute walk away from the centre). The market square is the focal point of the town which is situated on a hill. Here are most of the shops and services. Close to the market there is a brick church, whose spire can be seen from far away, with adjecent cemetary where you'll find a burial site of and a memorial to the victims of WWI. The main attractions of Cięzkowice, however, are beyond the town's borders. One is the so called ' Fossilized town' or 'the Stone Town'. The other being the 19th century manor house of the famous Polish composer and politician - Ignacy Paderewski.

Fossilized town

Fossilized Town, known also as Stone Town is a nature reserve which comprises a large forested area with fabulous sandstone boulders of different forms and sizes. The bigger ones bear names of objects they resemble, like a mushroom or a stronghold or a witch. The name 'Stone Town' comes from a legend according to which the bolders used to be parts of a real town, which however, was turned to stone as a punishment for some evil deed committed by one of the citizens.
The town can be reached from Cięzkowice by car or on foot (about 30min or less if you know shortcuts.

Ignacy Paderewski's Manor House in Kasna Dolna

A 19th century Manor House which used to belong to a famous Polish composer, Ignacy Paderewski is situated in the village called Kasna Dolna some 3 km away from Ciezkowice. The House, nowadays turned into a museum, is a popular cultural venue for events such as classical concerts and festivals. Surrounded by a beautiful park with a lake on its grounds it is a popular tourist destination even for people only mildly or not at all interested in music. If interested, you can find accommodation on the premises of the House, as one of the buildings has been turned into a small, cosy hotel. The prices are very reasonable (50zl for a single room).
