Pic Above - Sunrise behind the New Town Hall in Blackburn
For years the town keeps wanting to become a City
In my opinion it is not good enough - i think nearby Preston got City status and was fully deserved
Blackburn has a pop i think of 140,000 - but i think this includes a small place called Darwen as well
There is a Premiership football team - Blackburn Rovers
The most famous signing we had in recent history was Alan Shearer who had many caps for England.
Population of town is spread through a wide area so there are many green areas - especially on outskirts of town
There is a Canal - the Leeds & Liverpool Canal which runs through the town and is very attractive for walking and cycling.
Witton Country Park and Pleasington to the West of the town is very attractive for walking and recreation and is a beautiful landmark that can be seen from almost anywhere in Blackburn as at the back is the hill - Billinge Hill.
Our most famous resident is perhaps Mr Jack Straw who is the Foreign Secretary for government.
The town has a very diverse community with many people from India and Pakistan and more recently - from many countries from East Europe.
There are direct trains to Blackburn from Manchester - so about twice a year i often go to the big city.
Preston is also near by and is a very attractive small University City with a thriving young population
- Pros:Nice countryside around town

"baaaaa...." (just sayin' hi to the sheep don't mind me)
seems like a wonderful place I missed on my English vacation...Nice comments :-)
Nice tips and photos of your hometown -- and about cycling on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal. There is a similar one by the Union Canal in Edinburgh, part of the Clyde to Forth Cycle Route, which goes from Glasgow to Edinburgh (on the Firth of Forth).
I enjoy reading pages on the small places. This looks lovely Lee :o) Love the surroundings!....and interesting to see a wave water park there. Cool!! Cheers, Ann :o)
My only ever visits to Blackburn have been to Ewood Park to see SWFC play. I've seen us lose 3-0 and 3-1 at Blackburn...so not happy memories! ;-) There seems to be lots of nice countryside around the town, judging by your photos! :-)
nice pictures - canal images are terrific. I love images of the british countryside as well, like the church view in Witton Park. Thanks for sharing. N.
Nice pages Lee but not placed with other Blackburn pages such as mine. I think you have been put under Blackburn somewhere other than Lancashire.
Blackburn looks like a small English city should look like. Lovely canal and the old school building is splendid. I like your flower pics as well.
Thanks for comments on my Manc page - just been away to Yemen. Been to Burnley a fe wtimes but not Blackburn, must get there sometime JB
well done mate.
