Rim, South: Bright Angel Trail
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bright Angel Trail is a typical trail; but you yourself choose how hard it is. The most daring may go down to the river or if you just want to be one of the 5% of the visitors that go below the rim you can take a walk to the archway. On the way down on the left are some petroglyphs. You are mostly in the shade so it is not too hot. If you are a hiker this is a pretty good trail, just make sure to bring lots of water. Even if you are not that much of a hiker you can just take a small walk down to be one of the few who stand under the rim.

  • The must-do activity at the Park would be to take a helicopter into the Grand Canyon. There are different routes that are either longer or shorter. When you first get in and lift off you get this feeling of soaring alone. You get used to it after a while. At first you go over some trees and into the canyon. As you fly there is a narration about the canyon that you hear in your head phones. If your visiting, don't worry they have all kinds of languages for the narration. While you fly the music going goes along with what you see. For example, the helicopter was flying over a cliff and the music went ta-da and we came over the edge and saw the Colorado River. Very cool.

  • Another activity is to take the Grand Canyon Railway. The train starts in Williams, Arizona and ends in Grand Canyon south rim. While your waiting for the train there is a free wild west show that is very entertaining and funny. On the way up you see the scenery while your car speaker tells you about the history. In the back is a little shop which sells souvenirs and snacks. Entertainers come through at random time and entertain. Ours was a fiddle player. The train stops at the park and lets you explore for a little. Then when you get back on you may change your class. There are 5 different classes. We stayed in the observation deck, a higher place that has air conditioning with food and drink. Our car director was very fun. Overall it was very entertaining.

  • The Imax Theater at the Grand Canyon shows a 3-D movie about Major John Wesley Powell. He is the first to cross the rapids of the Colorado. It also shows some history from long ago about the first inhabitants living in the land. A 3-D movie on a big screen with popcorn always does me good.
