wuzhou We stayed at two hotels in this town, and both were o.k. In winter, there is no hot water after 10 p.m. and no heat on the floors during the day. Best breakfast was to buy buns in the market, fresh fruit that could be peeled and drink hot tea provided in the rooms. Leave the thermos bottle outside the door in the hall and boiled water will be added to it. Use this to make tea, peel the fruit and have fresh pastry for breakfast without worrying about going out. Wonderful pears, apples and bananas in the winter here as it is far enough south for good fruit. Do not wash in tap water, not safe. Soup is good and cheap, watch out for snake meat except when it is well cooked, as in the special local soup: snake and chicken. Good but spicy. Visit West Bamboo Temple for lunch. The vegie food is very good, cooked by the nuns and a change from "mystery meat." This is a working Buddist temple. Poor but proud. |
