I'm working on my Lindos page, something I somehow forgot to do after I returned from Rhodes a few months ago! |
| | Lindos is located about half way down the east coast of Rhodes Island, about an hour's bus ride from Rhodes Town. Lindos is traffic free, all cars being parked at the top of the hill by the main road (where the bus stops) and you then have to walk down into the town. The town is set about half way down the hill, a maze of streets of rectangular whitewashed houses, mostly with flat roofs. This maze of narrow streets provides shade, and the whitewashing relects the heat of the sun. Both of these are deliberate and welcomed - Lindos is the hottest place on the Island and in the heat of the summer sun would unbearable otherwise. Further down the hill, beyond the town, are the twin beaches of Lindos Bay. Towering above the town on a rocky precipice is the Acropolis, the historic old city which is now a fascinating and well preserved ruin. |
