Rhodes Town

City Walls, Rhodes Town
OK, so I think this is the correct location on VT for Rhodes Town, though it may be for the whole Island, I'm not sure...
Rhodes Town is a quite amazing place to me. Three different cities in one - the resort area, with it's beaches, hotels, bars and restaurants aimed at the tourists; the new town, with its harbours, shops and more cosmopolitan bars etc., aimed as much at the locals as the tourists; and the old town, a quite incredible maze of streets with great sights and history around every corner, and a very magical atmosphere after dark.

There's sights to see everywhere in Rhodes, in the new town as well as in the old. And even out in the suburbs of the new town, well away from the usual tourist centres, you will find brown signs leading you to "ancient vaulted tomb complex" or "Ancient Hellenistic city walls"... There's so much to see, you won't get a chance to see it all. There's still plenty of new stuff left for us to do if we ruturn.
The beaches around Rhodes town are not the best - the sand is coarse and the road is a bit too near - and the sea is not the best for swimming in either. For the best beaches you need to go down the coast to Faliraki, Lindos, etc.
In spite of this, the coastal location of the town is still a good place to be, and the beaches will be adequate for many.
