The monastery of Panormitis lies at the far end of Symi Island from the town of Symi. It is the point of pilgrimage for all Greek sailors and to cater with the amount of pilgrims it receives and the fact that it is quite remote, it has a large number of cells in which travellers can stay a night or two. The monastery has some basic facilities for tourists and pilgrims - taverna, shop, bakery, toilets, beach, promanade with benches. It's quite an idyllic location and is worth a visit. We were only there about 45 minutes, but I wished we'd had longer. |

Helga67 Thu Oct 6, 2005 08:52 UTC This looks like a hidden gem that one should visit by boat. Lovely pics, great tips as usually | deecat Thu Sep 29, 2005 17:58 UTC Great to read about your "pilgrimage" to Panormitis and the monastery. This looks like a most interesting place with beautiful scenery, both natural and manmade. You photos are crystal clear, vivid, and the colors are so vibrant. | richiecdisc Thu Sep 22, 2005 13:16 UTC I'll take the rustic bread over pastries any day, but if you ate a tub of ice cream, I see where your tastes lie. ;) Nice to see some shots of your recent sunny trip. | steventilly Mon Sep 19, 2005 22:57 UTC Yes and no. |
