    • Beware of people offering you a free trip to a glass factory. The trip will most likely turn out to be free, but the boat owner is on 'comission' from the factory, in the hope that you'll buy some nice, expensive glassware. It happened to friends of ours and although they didn't feel threatened in any way, it felt a bit strange.

    If you are persuaded to go, don't buy anything if you don't want to. There's no obligation.

    If you have a Vaporetto pass, getting to the factories is going to be 'free' anyway, so just go under your own steam.

     Nice tips about Venice with some interesting facts. I was here on a school trip as a lad and got lost, hitched back to our camp site and fell asleep in our tent while the cops were scouring the canals with my school chums...Tim
