Favorite Thing: See the area around St. Marks. St. Marks, The Doges Palace, the waterfront of St. Marks Basin, the views across to St. Maria Della Salute and San Giorgio Maggiore are probably the most famous and beautiful things in Venice. If you're here for the day then naturally this is what you'll want to see, but if you're here for longer, be sure to get away from this area too, and see what Venice has to offer 'off the beaten path'.

Favorite Thing: Feed the Pigeons in St. Marks. Corny I know, but every one is doing it and it is quite fun. There are stands there selling pigeon food, but they'll eat just about anything!

Favorite Thing: Arrive by water! If you arrive by road or rail you cross the causeway from Mestre and end up right at Venice's most unimpressive part - the Railway Station and Car Park! If you can, come by boat - there are vaporettos straight from Venice Airport and also from surrounding places such as Punta Sabbioni (Lido De Jesolo).

Favorite Thing: Visit St Marks, both the square and the cathedral. Described as 'the finest drawing room in Europe', it certainly should not be missed. Well, actually most visitors to Venice seem to come only to see this and Rialto Bridge, and for sure there is a lot more than that to see in Venice. But yeah, if you're only here a day, you have to see St Marks. (And don't be afraid to take tea in the square - see later!)

Favorite Thing: Take a trip up the Campanile! You get great panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. You have to go up and down in a lift (so no good for claustraphobics), there can be quite a queue and sometimes it's really cold and windy up the top. But it's well worth it for the views. (in the middle of this pic - 'The Bovolo' - see later).

Fondest Memory: The Labia Palace. It's name will live with me forever ;-)
