Name of Shop: Lake Forest Park Towne Centre
Developers wanted to build a mall in the area in 1960. The provincials didn't want any commercialization of the area and incorporated as a city to prevent the mall from coming in......the effort failed.....fortunately....and out that effort we got a city government and the mall both! The mall had many, many problems because the city founders made doing business there very difficult. Finally, sign ordinances were liberalized and Third Place Books came into the mall. Now this is way more that a bookstore! There is a common seating area for five restaurants, five unique restaurants, a branch of a community college....live music on stage every Friday and Saturday night....huge crowds for book signing of everybody from former wrestler/Governor Jesse Ventura to astronaut Scott Carpenter.
Almost everybody in LFP uses the store for their personal meeting areas....
What To Buy: Besides the Third Place Books, I enjoy Great Harvest Bread Company.....bakes rustic breads with no preservatives but the most amazing thing about this place is their liberal sample policy....you cannot get out of the place without have a huge slice of fresh bread from the 5-6 choices ....the employees insist that you have a slice even if you are not buying anything! The breads are incredible and they sell a ton of bread and other bakery products.
Other favorites are Starbuck's Coffee, The Avid Angler, a flyfishing store, Hollywood Video, and the LFP Public Library....yes, a library right in the center of the mall! There is also a grocery store, a drugstore and various other business including two banks and the LFP City Hall and Police Station
