Market Day is Saturday in SJC in the Central Plaza. Negotiate everything but do not involve yourself unless you really want to buy the item.

What to buy: While this is not as big a thing as the Market Days in Nebaj or Chichicastanango you will have an opportunity to buy some beautiful woven goods at very reasonable prices.

What to pay: Ask first and the price they give you will be about 4x what you actually will need to spend.
Negotiate any purchase from a street vendor. The only items I do not negotiate are food items and beverages...they generally have a fixed price.
