Florence was the centre for the Renaissance where many of the famous people from that era and even beyond ranging from Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, the Medicis, and Galileo came from. While the Renaissance began here, its effects spread throughout Europe and had a lasting impact many years beyond. For those interested in the history of the Renaissance, Florence is the city to visit. Lying roughly half way between Venice and Rome, it is a perfect place to stop if also visiting those two cities.
