Restaurant Name: Sjätte Tunnan
Sjätte Tunnan (The 6th Barrel) is an amazing restaurant situated at an underground vault at the Old Town (Gamla Stan) of Stockholm. Going down the stairs makes you feel like being transported right into the middle ages. Hardly any artificial light, most of the place is lit by candles alone, the staff wears medieval outfits, medieval tunes are played (on weekends even live music). So the general atmosphere is pretty authentic and quite dim but in an extremeley cozy way. You can go there for a drink only but the food is excellent and I'd recommend to try some!
Forks are only available at request as in the middle ages people did not use any because it reminded them of the devil's trident. So what you get is a pretty big knife and a spoon and so you've got to make use of your fingers in parts.
Visitors are encouraged to sing along whenever they feel like it and even to dance on the tables (as long as they spare the dishes and other people's drinks).
Sjätte Tunnan is an extraordinary experience and a must for every fan of the middle ages.
Favorite Dish: As a starter we had a plate of cold, marinated fish (5 different kinds if I remember correctly) along with some bread and sliced apples.
The main course was half a chicken cooked with mead and cinnamon along with some honey glazed vegetables like potatos and carrots, also some apples and lingonberries.
They also offer set menus for 2, 3 or 6 people.
