Main streets

I took a handy bike trail into the city, there are lots of bike trails so you don't need to mix with traffic too much. I have been to lots of American cities, this one is different. The streets are labelled a,b,c,d with other roads off. The downtown area is quiet small and has lots of tourist shops and a mall.
The main stuff that is different from the usual is furs, some mammoth tusk jewelry and leather goods stamped with the word ALASKA.
If you want the proper shops such as Walmart you then go to Mid town, about a mile.
The town has low rise buildings straight roads, and look North to the mountains which are impressive.

In Alaska it should be cold, well lets say its not hot. Long sleeves in August and perhaps a raincoat. The rain is drizzle and stop and start when I was there.
I understand best time is July.

Whats to do

I recommend you visit the ULU shop go on the trolley bus its free and you get a free Reindeer sausage.
Also visit the Federal Building, they also show some interesting films.
There is the central museum mainly American peoples stuff.
Also Earthquake museum.

For eating the Mall is good value on the top floor lots of eating outlets and power sockets for your laptop.
