One of the magnificent ancient towns | Coming to the town from the south |
lies just couple of hours of flight from France. Unless you wanna travel there thru Algeria, which is longer, hotter, less comfortable and more expensive. |
| That is the minaret of the mosque |
| | This is IT one of the oldest mosques in the Sahara Even though the stuff you see on the picture is not wery old the original construction of the whole complex of the mosque dates back to the 16th century. |
This is not Cairo or Jerusalem and I am not just talking about the size but about the whole view which you are gonna get when you see it. Seeing couple of bad things around the world, still Agadez was SHOCK for me. For the few minutes after I have walked thru the OLD QUARTER and food market area I thought that I was transfered exactly to the 16th century where Agadez had 50 000 people and was the cultural, commercial and intelectual center of this part of the Sahara. Anyone seriously interested in seeing the cultural melting pots of the SAHARA should come here. Everything you are gonna see here will be new for you. |
