Even though there is public transportation that goes here it is quite an advanture to get here. At least in european standards. To get here it takes 35 hours from nouakchott. But it is definately worth it. When there will be flights to nema this place will lost its soul a bit. |
| Typical street of old walata |
| | Walata is different Walata looks and is very different from the other famous educational desert towns like chinguetti or wadane. It is basically surrounded by hills of rocks, sand and mix of that and wherever u go u have to walk up or down. To protect the houses from the rain floods, the town is build on what looks like rocky terraces. |
| | Oldest high class educational center of Sahara Yes, before there was agadez or timbuktu the most prominent scholars taught in this town which was the last resting point for caravans coming to timbuktu from the north and west. At the edge of the old town there is a museum and library where u can have a look of old manuscripts like in chinguetti. On the picture is a reception room of the library with some books as well. |
