This hotel is now called the Nile Palace Hotel and we have just returned from a week's stay there. It is a 4+ star hotel which deservedly is in the top 10 (6th) Conde Last hotels of Africa. We had a courtyard view room, and we were glad we hadn't upgraded to Nile View because the sun is so hot the occupants of the nile view rooms have to keep their curtains closed all the time the sun is on them to keep the heat out. The hotel has 3 restaurants - we tried them all and they are all good, although we preferred the Lebanese one best. There are 3 bars, one in the courtyard where you can watch the evening entertainment, and one in an air-conditioned foyer overlooking the pool and the nile, and one by the pool.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, and unlike outside in the city, they dont expect "baksheesh" (tips) all the time, although they dont say no if you do! The hotel is fairly modern without being characterless, and the decor is mostly marble in shades of beige/sand and green.
Unique Qualities: Outdoor pool (they dont need it indoors!), spectacular Nile Views from the bar and the verandahs as well as from the nile view rooms (you can have to pay up to £150 extra for one of these!), 3 restaurants, 3 bars including the poolside bar, souvenir shops, a hairdresser (slightly old-fashioned, styles are from the 90's if the pictures in the window are to be believed), bank and ATM (good rates) pool/billiard room, conference facilities, internet room, gym.
