"So butiful Place to be at" Bear Lake Sands by t_cims

With its clear turquoise waters and secluded
sandy beaches, pristine Bear Lake lies nestled
high in the scenic mountains of northern Utah
and southern Idaho, just 40 miles through the
Bear Mountains from Logan. Cottonwoods,
pines, and marshlands color the landscape.
The lake is a vestige of prehistoric lake
Bonneville, which covered most of the West,
and was formed over 28 thousand years ago by
seismic activity; the exceptionally clean, bright
aqua-blue hue is created by natural limestone
calcium carbonates.

Bear Lake covers over 112 square miles of natural beauty and diverse recreational
opportunities. Boaters, sailors, fisherman, skiers, golfers, hikers, divers, jet skiers,
and snowmobilers alike enjoy this stunning area. Fishing includes cutthroats,
rainbows, mackinaw, whitefish, and yellow perch.

Bear Lake

There are several beaches of historical
interest. Bear Lake was originally called
Black Bear Lake and was discovered in
1819 by scout Donald Mackenzie of the
North West Fur Company. Rendezvous
Beach is named after the rendezvous
point of fur trappers and Native Americans
in the early 1900's. Thousands of Native
Americans and mountain men like
Jedediah Smith gathered to trade at this
historical site.
