Preserved for tourism

This island is still as it looked many years ago. In the early 1900's, a great deal of wealth had roots on the island and the old hotel was the place to be. Now that many tourists frequent, more things are availbe to see and offer to folks to do. But no CARS.

There are plenty of places to choose from to stay and eat. The rest of the time you can walk up and down the lane, or take a hike in the outlying section away from town. The whole town is set to cater to the tourists and do so in great fashion.

Mackinac Bridge

This is one of the longest bridges in the area, if not the longest.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:A quiant spot to reflect on the old times
  • Cons:In certain months-way too many people

A very interesting page. Visiting the great lakes has been high on my wishlist for some time, I hope eventually I'll make it there.

my niece, who lived in Detroit till last year, suggested this place for us to explore with her husband. but then they moved to Oregon and our plan for 2009 got cancelled.

The era of the majestic old Grand Hotel! It does look grand & reminds me of similar places in New England and the Maritimes where the Ocean airs were the only summer escape in pre-air conditioner days! FDR had a cottage on Campobello Is., New Brunswick.

What to do? we suggest renting bikes and pedaling around the island. lots of fun, if the weather is agreeable.
