Plan an itinerary to go to places that you may not notice otherwise. We went to the Combat Air Museum and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are vintage planes, some reworked and some like they came out of WWII recently. About 30 planes are in 2 hangers of all types.
The Kansas Museum of History is another place that you can get the flavor for Kansas theme. It has a village concept and nice to walk through. There is an ecclectic mix of topics in the museum.

Layout Map of the city

The City has US 70 going through the middle of the central business district and that continues to the west where the latest commerce and suburbia has congregated. Yes, there is a Wal Mart out that way on Wanamaker Rd. That is the hub of the commercial sector. To the south at Forbes Field is a great airplane museum with vintage planes from 1930-70's. It a a wonderful place of nostalgia.

To my knowledge the Capitol is not open for tours yet because of ongoing reconstruction since 2007. What was once promised to be $150 million revamp job, has not blown out of proportion to exceed $250 million and pushing. Government at work, but the old renovation unknowns may be somewhat understandable that have tipped the costs higher.

Pros:Hidden treasures of siteseeing
Cons:The traffic on Wanamaker is horrendous
In a nutshell:After seeing the Sites, not much else to do

You gotta see the murals in the capital and take the dome tour when it opens back up again!
