Swamp Tour on Hilton Head

There is a swamp in the middle of the Sea Pines Plantation that has about 50 acres of pristine lush vegetation that is untouched. You can walk along paths and over bridges and see the animals and waterfowl here as well as what a swamp looks like. It is a fun tour that take 1-2 hours

Plantation Estate Tour

This was a nice tour of an old working plantation not far from Savannah. It has been 15 years since seeing this site, so if I could remember what it was, I would list it. However, there are other plantations around the Savannah area that can be toured. Wormsloe Plantation is one operated by the State, but do not expect much. It is a ruin, and only some tabby shells remain besides an arched entrance

Street Scenes

The main focus area is along Bay Street and leading down onto River Street/Factor Walk. The Cotton Exchange building is the most recognizable, but also a number of historic structures are spread along this area. The primary purpose to come to this very old city is to enjoy the variety of nice building structures and the lush greenery. Since the layout was established by James Oglethorpe back to 1733, this city has preserved so much in history for the comparative US. Some of the structures are form the late 1700-early 1800's

Walk the Streets-Follow a Map for Sites

Park the car and walk to see all the home by home structures as you stroll down the pretty tree streets. Also get down to the river front for an indication of how it was back years ago. They have preserved a number of old structures along the riverfront and some ornate buildings that were used for administration and trading activities. Plot out the sites to look for before going so they can be observed as you go along the streets. Trolley tours get you be these historic sites, but you surely would want to take more time to view the details.

Water adventures

The Talmedge bridge is 1100 feet long and the expanse is 1.9 miles in total length from entry to other side. From the area around River Street, you can get a fishing expedition, river boat tours, and farther out there are beaches and marshes to look at or utilize.

Colonial Park CEmetary

Cemeteries Colonial Park Cemetery Review

There are some very historic markers in the cemeteries. Colonial Park is on 6 acres and the burials started in 1750;s and continued through 1853, when closed due to overfill of bodies. There are 5 primary older cemeteries in the local area. Tombstones are fun reading to get the feel for history.

The Parks/Squares

They are all the best to feature. A total of 21 squares cover the city, mostly in the downtown district. They all are very nice to stroll in and view the statues and fountains. Most knows are Chippewa and Monterey and Forsyth Park. None of the fountains are huge, but are great features.

The beach-ocean

Off the mainland you can venture onto some beaches that are untouched and not often frequented. Look out the vehicle does not get stuck out there. Tybee Island is the most famous, but there are other spots that have attraction to the less taken route
