A truly wonderful city just 45 miles from Munich and on Autostrada 92 just past the airport. It was a city residence for the Wittelsbachs back in 1231, and by 1255 it became the capital of Lower Bavaria.
The city is known for its great Gothic style architecture; and has a lot of it. The Traunitz castle was upgraded in 1569 by Wiliiam V, when he lived there for 10 years

Gothic rows of buildings

The main street of the Altstadt has numerous ornate buildings that spans 3 city blocks to end where the Podiwils Strasse is at end and parallel to Altestadt and Neustadt strasses.

St Martin Church

Standing out in any crowd of red roofs is this huge church in the middle of the city. It has the world's tallest spire at 131 meters; about 430 feet. The oldest known record is from 1389 when construction began, but it took 110 years to complete.

Pros and Cons

The city looks really interesting and I'd love to visit it one day. The place was a scene of an important historical event that connected Polish and Bavarian dynasties. In 1475 George of Bavaria and Hedwig Jagiellon married in Landshut in a lavish ceremony. Every four years the wedding is reenected in a medieval festival that is one of the greatest pageants in Europe. The nearest one is going to be held in summer this year.

Of the many towns with historic monuments, this is one of the better, and well preserved. Maybe you could reenact a wedding for the crowd

Landshut looks like quite a nice city to visit. I like the inside of the Castle, the town square and the Tor. Nice page!

Even though the walk to get to the top is steep, it sounds like a nice castle to see the inside

Nice tips on architecture and castle in Landshut. I've been to Landshut, but only on business, and I never really had time to look around properly.
