This is the layout of the town. Off to the right is the parking lot. Down further to the south of this port entry is a school and a residential living area for residences.
The Longobards founded the town in the 900's and it thrived due to the building of the walls for protection. The walls are still intact and two of the original ports are standing yet. Seven churches surround the town and the Duomo at the top of the hill, St. Christoforo is the magnificent one. Wandering through the streets makes us feel somewhat like intruders since not all the locals were used to tourists necessarily. They do have shops to buy goods.
Saint Christopher church is the largest and most impressive. It has a pink facade and some of the original limestone still exists on the facade.
- Pros:Like the peaceful climate and children going to school
- Cons:Not a lot of sightseeing to do-but eh duomo
- In a nutshell:Nice quite town to walk and enjoy the docle vita

Another lovely addition to VT! Wonderful page!
So good to read your views and insights about Barga. We loved it there too.
Bruce, fantastic little page about an Italian town I didn't even know about before visiting your page.
Nice town on top of hill - and yes that's a great panoramic view. I guess that wonderful theater has been renovated already - nice one.
~ Hi, Bruce! You're right: great views, beautiful place! Thanks for sharing!
Looks absolutely beautiful. It always helps a town if there is ample free parking.
Lovely town and fantastic views!!! And a quite interesting entrance gate!
Barga sure is a charming little Italian town. Like the idea of the piazzettas.
Lovely Barga page! It seems Barga has some interesting tourist attractions such as the theater, museum, duomo and piazzettas. We have yet to visit this city. Hope to visit it one day. ~ho & pang
