Water Everywhere

Artful buildings all around

A look down a canal
The canals all hold another treasure round the next bend. If you take the bend too far, you could get lost and try to find your way back is not easy. . Believe me, it has happened every time, and I have been there 5 times. Maps are only guidelines, and keep a GPS with you if you venture too far in the outback.
The magnificence of the city is hard to imagine; how it grew over the years of wealth, and the canals were the routes to get to the homes and markets. There are over 160 canals that link into the grand canal, and connect 118 different islands.

Mozaic tiles at the utmost

It glitters with mosaics and flickering candles. It is a mix of western European, Gothic and Byzantine styles. The area was a struggle for 200 years as to whom ruled after Venecian downfall, but Venezia ruled for 1,000 years to build this monument in an elegant city.

Grand Canal

The canal is one of about 150 that connect from it into other channels. It is an art from to be able to get from one to the other an know where you are. If you read a map closely, you still wonder where am I now. The grand canal can churn up water and close to tidal waves. Gondolas have a tough ride out there with the vaperettos, and delivery boats going along at fairly fast pace.
