Funicular to Festung Hohensalzburg

In order to reach the fortress, you can use a steep footpath which will take approximately 20-30 minutes depending on your state of fitness and weather conditions. If you choose this option, take good shoes! The path is pretty steep. I walked back down from the fortress and nearly slipped over a few times!
Another more sedate option is the funicular cable car. The ticket office is located in the Festungsgasse. Here you can buy a ticket for ten Euros which will includes a return ticket for the funicular, entry to the fortress and guided tours and museum entry. I found it to be good value for money, especially if you spend a large part of the day there.
The funicular is a much quicker option as you will reach the fortress in under a minute.
