Gosen is a small city which is about a 45min train ride from Niigata City. Gosen is the epitomy of country Japan, with everything from miles of rice fields to mountain vistas.
If you are looking for somewhere with great shopping or huge attractions, Gosen is not the place for you. What you can find here is peace and quiet and a myriad of traditional Japanese things to do. The attached photo is of Gosen`s famous tulip fields. Also of interest are the various shrines and temples which are located throughout the city and in the surrounding mountains.
Gosen`s people are unparalled in their friendliness and hospitality to foreigners. As an exchange student, I never heard a harsh word from anyone including my peers at school. It is, however, necessary to speak some Japanese because NO ONE here speaks English (this is good if you are wanting to learn Japanese)
- Pros:Quiet, tranquil, friendly people
- Cons:No shopping, no English
- In a nutshell:More than meets the eye.
