The Samjhauta (friendship) express train between Delhi, India and Lahore, Pakistan. At present is is a twice-weekly service, Tuesdays and Fridays.
In the year 2000 there was an incident of bombing in the train causing many deaths but then there are bombing on roads also, all throughout the world. The train crosses via Wagah (Pakistan) border and Attari (India) border and Attari is only 25 kms from Amritsar. The staff that serve you
I am not sure whether I should put this tip in the transportation or in the things to do list. It is definitely one of the transport modes Indians are very proud of, but at the same time, it is something to see in itself. I am talking about the palace on wheels train and the enchanting royal journey with it. The concept of the train was to bring back the bygone days of the Maharajas and create an atmosphere where you would find yourself as if back to those days and enjoy a seven day tour of the historical places in Rajasthan mostly and partly in the Uttar Pradesh. The train is beautiful like a Palace and has luxurious cabins, wall carpets, beautiful decoration, a nice bar, two restaurants where they serve exquisite Indian food, and room service and as they claim, its "a heaven on earth for seven days!" The seven day trip on P on W starts at New Delhi with a a day tour of places like India Gate, Lotus Temple, Qutab Minar, Humayun's Tomb etc. Lunch is provided at a Delhi restaurant and then travellers are transported to the Safdarjung Railway station, New Delhi for a warm traditional welcome on board the Palace on Wheels. The first stop is the Pink city Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan and a historical place in its own grandeur ane one of the most well planned cities of the world of its time. To explore the city, there is an air-conditioned coach that takes passengers to the tourist attractions in the city. The next stop is in the heart of the Thar Desert, the city of Jaisalmer. After lunch on board, there is an exciting camel ride on the sand dunes before a visit for the dinner and the cultural programmes at a hotel in Jaisalmer. The next stop is at Jodhpur. Next is Sawai Madhopur, a city with the ruins of a 10th century fort. There is also a wildlife sanctuary. The next stop is Chittaurgarh wher one can see images of love and valour, of battles lost and won and the thrice-beseiged Chittaurgarh Fort. On day 6, it arrives at Udaipur, the Lake City. The 7th day the train takes you to Bharatpur, the famous bird sanctuary. The same day the train also takes you to Agra and Fatehpur Sikri, the red sandstone Mughal palatial complex. The next morning you are already at New Delhi railway station. All through the 7 days, travellers are either provided excellent traditional royal meals on board the train or at great restaurants at the cities the passengers visit during this tour. There are facilities like, bars, restaurants, lockers, room service, lounge, newspapers, souvenirs, tour kits etc. apart from great sights and foods.

Well there can be no greater travelling and tourism than discovering places on your own foot. And the same holds for India too.

If one goes to an Indian village, he/she should definitely try a ride on a bullock cart. Please do so under supervision as bullocks may sometimes be dangerous

In Kolkata, trams are often seen on the roads. though not very popular with people on the hurry, it has a long tradition in Kolkata and people really can't imagine this city minus the trams. Good for a leisurely ride around the city.
