I made a very brief trip to Vienna from Bratislava by bus and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this beautiful city. Someday, I would wish to go back one day and see the city in more detail. From my very brief trip, I can only summarise that I loved the city.
Stadtbahnstation (metro) Karlsplatz by Otto Wagner
Vienna is the capital of Austria and is also its largest city. Traditionally it has been a cultural centre and being the capital of the country, it has also become its economic and political hub. Vienna is situated in the eastern side of Austria close to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Infact it is just 50 minutes drive from Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is the 10th largest city by population in the European Union. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. The city has a very old settlement dating back to around 500 BC. Originally it had a Celtic settlement, but in 15 BC it came under the Roman Empire and was for sometime the capital of the Roman Empire

Since very early times, Vienna has been a cultural centre for music, arts and cuisine. Vienna houses some very important international institutions including the United Nations. I had a very short day trip to Vienna and definitely it is not enough to see and understand a city of this stature. But I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the city, and as usual, walked a lot. As usual, I also had a day ticket to ensure that I could make the most of my time and apart from the famous No. 1 tram around Ringstrasse, I also took many metros and buses to see as much as I could. To add to my pleasure, I also helped myself to the famous Wiener schnitzel for which the city is so famous.

Excellent tips but I liked the info on staying at Bratislava. I had read about thr knife attack on Emperor Franz. You are really lucky to have visited all the place in detail.

Vienna-most beautiful city, the citizens are a bit quiet though! We ate the best Asian food in whole of Europe right here. And sitting in a tram and a long ride is a superb way to see the city.Nice pages.
